THE TRAVELING JERUSALEM CAFE
• A model for multicultural sensitivity programming
• Available to travel to galleries, museums, cultural and educational
centers around the world
Simultaneously a multi-sensory immersive art exhibit and functioning café,
the Traveling Jerusalem Cafe is being developed in cooperation with East
and West Jerusalem cafes. It is a non-confrontational safe environment
to encounter Israeli and Palestinian societies beyond sensationalism and
stereotypes. It features life size paintings, interviews with owners,
sampled sounds, music, fabrics, tastes (including hot drinks and light
food) and scents from East and West Jerusalem cafes and a live webcast
with cafes on both sides of the city.
The Traveling Jerusalem Café premiered April 2-6, 2006 in Israel
at the international conference sponsored by Leslie University of Cambridge,
Mass: “Imagine:
Expression in the Service of Humanity – Creative Approaches to Dealing
With Conflict in Groups”. In May 2006, it was displayed at the
Seeds of Peace Center in Jerusalem
and at the Vertigo Dance Company
of Jerusalem. It will be featured at the Boston
Center for the Arts at a later date, to be announced.
